Just a brief note to let you know that today has been a very disturbing day for us, we had to have Hank put to sleep this morning at the vet.  He had a rough night last night breathing, stopped eating & drinking, both of us thought it was time.  The veterinarian agreed so we had him put to sleep about 8:20 this AM.  Oh how much he loved this property and the "controlling" he did of the neighboring horses & cows.  We will truly miss him.  We are having him cremated so we can scatter some of his ashes around the property and keep some - he will never leave home - he will always remain with us - we will always love him.

I hate to be brief, but I must close.  Remember we love & miss everyone.

Love,

Patty & Pat

7/27/2010 Tuesday

July 27, 2010 07:59 by pphipps

Yep, Tuesday already and we're about ready to leave for football conditioning.  The "feels like" temperature is 104 degrees - looks like a scorcher for tonights team & coaches.  Weigh-in for the players is next week & equipment issue then the actual "practicing" begins. I only hope for a team of "players" that want the win:)

It's been pretty hot out today, yesterday our outside glass table (that seats 6) shattered into millions of pieces we can only assume that the heat tweaked the metal frame which caused the glass to break.  Boy what a mess, all Pat & I did yesterday evening was sweep up glass.  We had a plastic 5 gallon bucket filled with small glass pieces.  If you haven't witnessed that much glass you DON'T WANT TO.  Anyway, it's cleaned up and I think we're going to bring our solid (not glass) table from the front of the warehouse for the porch.  We actually like the chairs better and the table my only question is if it's to large for the area.

Generator is scheduled to be finished (the move) this upcoming Saturday just hope the weather (heat) goes down a little so the move can be accomplished with a little less sweat.  Then I guess we have to start thinking about landscaping although it seems far to hot out to put anything new in the ground.  We desperately need rain, wish we could get some after football conditioning every night for a week or so.  We aren't but about 1/10th of an inch behind but because it has been so hot the ground feels like it's been much longer.

Well, I think I'll go back & get dressed for the night.  Everyone have a safe inside cool evening.  Lots of hugs & kisses from both of us.

Love,

Patty

I can't believe this month is coming to an end already.  I honestly don't know where the summer has gone but I know one thing, I'm glad it's winding down.  Like everyone in the Northeast we've had hot weather although I must admit that some of the days in MD have been hotter then ours.  However, I know that our hot weather will last longer and I'll soon be wishing we had some of your cooler days.  When I logged on the actual temperature was 92 but the "feels like" temperature was 98 boy will I be glad when it's back to the 70's even 80's.

We went to the gym as usual in the morning then came home and have stayed inside since then.  It is just toooooo hot to go outside unless you have to.  No football conditioning until tomorrow evening so there is no excuse to go outside in the heat.  I think Pat's cooking pork & chicken on the grill this evening so dinner will be a breeze for me.  We actually planned on that last night but Dad wasn't up to eating so heavy & Pat and I were busy shooting pool so we passed on the grilling and ate simple frozen food.

Hank is the same not much change in his health.  Abner is Abner fiesty as ever and naturally thinks he's the boss.  Believe it or not but I think he's finally loosing a little weight he appears to be trimming down - I hope so, he was starting to look like a pot belly pig instead of a Yorkie.

Okay, I guess I've said enough for now so I'll close & maybe take a brief nap.  We love & miss everyone.

Hugs,

Patty

July 25, 2010 04:12 by pphipps

Well guys the generator move got started yesterday, the wiring for it has been buried and Patrick is still outside working on covering up the line.  Now, next week the electrician is back out to move the generator, fuel tank, and get it hooked back up.  We were afraid to be without power so we decided it was probably better to do it in two parts that way in the event it storms and the power goes off we won't be without the good old electricity:)  Sure will be glad when it's over.  Patrick used the shovel so much yesterday that he has an immense blister in the palm of his hand I don't know how he's doing much today I know his hand has to be hurting.  Umm I wonder what the next "event" will be off the "honey do" list???

Thankfully the storm didn't do much at all.  We had a small amount of rain last night which was definately much needed and that was all.  I'm thankful it didn't interfere with the oil disaster/leaks.  Actually it looks like that disaster is pretty much under control or at least for now.  I only hope that the temporary fix lasts until the new wells can be drilled and the leaking one closed completely.

Dad is Dad, sitting in his chair and mainly watching TV.  He's getting ready for dinner tonight, Pat's grilling chicken for himself and some marinated pork chops for Dad & I.  We haven't had any pork in a long time & it's sounding good already.  I just made the marinade for the pork and have to get with Patrick for the chicken marinade he likes it spicey and I never seem to get it right so I defer to him for perfection.

Our garden is pretty empty, we still have all the herbs which we use daily, several tomatoes and a few red peppers that are still growing.  Squash is completely gone and the long sweet peppers as well.  The preparation on the winter garden is moving along I noticed that Patrick plowed it up again Friday, just getting it ready for the August/September planting.  I know one thing, we have certainly utilized what was planted for summer and the gym has gotten their share of the crops.

Well, I hear the tractor running so I better run outside & see what Pat's doing.  I'll blog again later.  Stay inside (according to our news it's hotter there then here - what's up?), stay cool, and enjoy the end of the weekend.  We love & miss everyone.

Love,

Patty

July 24, 2010 00:30 by pphipps

Hi Guys, haven't blogged in a couple of days (I see some that I posted didn't post for some reason) oh well, you haven't missed anything.  It's been hot (like most of you are experiencing) we've continued our gym mornings with afternoons watching TV.  I have to make this short because Patrick and the electrician are moving the large house generator and I don't know when my power will be interrupted. Sooo, I'll close for now but promise to blog again later this evening.

Have a super Saturday - stay inside, watch movies, eat popcorn, just stay out of the sweltering heat:)  We love & miss everyone.

Hugs,

Patty

Have a super Saturday.  I understand MD is suppose to have mid to upper 90's so you better prepare.  You know what???  I think your weather is following our weather pattern.  I kinda like it because we've been having cooler days then you guys (some of the time).  I must admit that yesterday at 3:30 when I decided I needed to do something and naturally cutting the grass was on my schedule, the "feels like temperature" when we got OFF the tractors was 107 degrees so I think I chose the wrong activity for the day.  Um maybe inside watching a movie would have been a better choice.  Anyway, all the lawn is cut and it looks great.

Generator move has been delayed to next week I think the electrician & Patrick got wires (so to speak) crossed and we weren't on the electrician's schedule.  Oh well, it is suppose to be in the 90's anyway so it's probably better that it will be later in the week.

Dad enjoyed his Birthday yesterday.  We gave him a "Snuggie" yep mid summer for his gift he stays covered with an electric blanket every day so we thought he's enjoy it and he hasn't had it off since we gave it to him.  He also got a combination Father's Day/Birthday Gift from us, we bought an upclose ariel photograph of the property which he really loves.  Another year come & gone sure hope we have many more in the future.

Well, Patrick wants to run to the automotive store and I want to go to the Post Office so I'll shut up for the morning and sign off.  Whatever you do this weekend keep it safe, wear lots of sun screen, and remember we love & miss you guys.

Kisses,

Patty

HAPPY BIRTHDAY POP we LOVE you and hope for many more birthdays to come and go.  I know you can't wait to enjoy your ice cream cake but that will be an evening treat:)

Nothing new around the farm, Pat is putting new blades on my John Deere lawn tractor so it looks like I'll be cutting some grass when the weather cools down a little.  Actually I enjoy cutting I just hate feeling so dirty & gritty when the job is over.  I skipped cutting out front by the mail box last week so I think that's where I'll start cutting this week.  Between the rain & sunshine I don't know what makes the grass grow faster but I know one thing before the week is over the lawn needs done.  I sure do enjoy having new blades - watch out lawn here I come!!

Just made Dad a tomatoe & mayonnaise sandwich for lunch he loves those sweet tomatoes that Pat grew.  He swears that I put sugar and salt on them he says "there the best(o)ns I've ever had".  Taking that from an old farmer it's quite a compliment and especially from one that never use to know how to compliment you.  Actually I think he has enjoyed the "maters" as much as we have.  Typicall everyday for lunch I make a nice salad out of tomatoes, long green peppers out of the garden, sweet onion, cucumbers, fresh basil, olive oil & seasoned wine vinegar.  It usually gives me indigestion but I enjoy eating it and normally have a few tums afterwards.

Hank is doing okay, he's sleeping most of the time and Abner pretty much stays in the chair with Pop during the day.  Aside from getting fat, Abner is doing wonderful still as fisty as ever!

Okay, I need to check on the status of my new blades & see if Pat's ready for lunch.  I'll start the salad, you start up the cars & head South lunch will be on the table.

Love,

Patty

7/15/2010 Thursday

July 15, 2010 06:01 by pphipps

Okay, the month is half over and that means for most of us that there is only about 45 more days of summer.  Can you believe it's half over already?  I'm ready for Fall and am looking very forward to cooler weather.  It seems like we had a long colder then usual winter and then we were hit with SUMMER I don't know what happened to Spring.  Don't get me wrong we have had a few cooler then normal days the last couple of weeks but when they are gone and it's hot, it's HOT:)  Thankfully we're having one of those HOT days but we do have a breeze blowing so it's a little easier to tolerate then just blazing HOT.  Come on Fall we're waiting patiently for you.

Football conditioning tonight and I like the cooler temps for the coaches & players.  Normally by 6:00 (when conditioning begins) the temps have cooled down a little (90 plus) but the sun seems less intent and the breeze seems to have picked up some.  Today we have had less "intent" sun then usual and I hear a little thunder on occasion in the background just hope we don't get any rain for conditioning.  Conditioning becomes mandatory next week and I'll be glad for the coaches to have as close to complete teams as possible for practicing.  I feel sorry for the guys that haven't been coming they have certainly missed their share of coaching.

Dad has his Birthday tomorrow no special plans, hopefully I can make him a nice dinner that he'll enjoy and naturally we'll have a small cake for him.  One of the ladys from church sent him a homemade banana pudding last night - um um good wish we could share some with you guys.  We took some to the gym this AM for the guys along with some of the tomatoes out of the garden - see what you're missing????

Well, I think I'll check on my laundry then on Patrick & the dogs.  Off to practice in a couple of hours (my reading time) so I'll blog again tomorrow.  We love & miss everyone.

Hugs & Kisses,

Patty

Hey guys it's "hump" day and the week is half over.  Can't believe it has come and gone already.  Our temperature has increased so it's been pretty much an inside week after the morning gym.  Football conditioning has been good but, hotter then HE_ _.  Dad is dad watching TV & reading along with the cats, dogs, & birds.  WOW we have a real zoo in this household.

New blades came today for my John Deere mower so I guess lawn cutting is in order for Thursday or Friday.  Patrick just changed the blades on his mower so we should be cutting fools as soon as the weather cools down a little.  We normally cut early AM or pre-evening so it's nicer outside and you don't exhaust ourselves from the stifling heat.  Can't wait until the hay is cut & bailed it is getting really high and needs to be done soon.

We went out earlier today to pick up Pat's new glasses and the eye doctor was closed until 3:30 so we decided to wait until tomorrow to pick them up.  Also have to take Dad's Sony E-Reader to have it repaired he's already wore it out.  I'm thankful we purchased the extended warranty I know Dad misses having it to read.

Well, I think I should close & see what I can do around the house.  I'll blog again tomorrow.  We love & miss everyone.

Hugs,

Patty

7/12/2010 Monday

July 12, 2010 08:37 by pphipps

Hi Guys, nothing new going on just thought I'd write a quick blog to say hello.  Gym is over for the day, Patrick is watching recorded Collin (you know how those sports guys are), Dad is watching TV & reading, and the animals are relaxing.  No change with Hank although he does seem to act like he's feeling better and his appetite is wonderful just wish he'd gain some weight.

Weather today has been pretty good it's only in the 80's and slightly sunny.  Sure can't complain it's more like Spring (finally) then summer.  I won't gripe because I know it will quickly change and be hotter then h _ _ l again:) I'm actually counting the days until Fall gets here we just love the cooler crisp weather that we're fortunate enough to experience come Fall.  Sure glad we don't have to encounter the horrible blast from winter although I know some of you enjoy a little of the "cold" weather.  I think I'll take NONE vs. SOME.

No special plans for dinner, guess we'll be on a seek & eat mission. Dad's appetite has been down some so I really don't have to worry with fixing much for him.  Patrick cooked a gorgeous delmonico steak last night and Dad didn't eat a bite.  I must admit there is one entire steak left so we could all eat steak again if we wanted it.  Better yet, why don't all of you guys & gals head South and Patrick and I will fix you a nice delmonico dinner????  We'd absolutely love to have some of you visit us - lots of room, nice weather, close to Disney, close to the Ocean, plenty of lakes -what more could you ask for???

Enough is enough I've chatted more then you'd like to hear.  Remember we love & miss you guys - time to head South for vacation.

Hugs & Kisses,

Patty
